How does the admissions process work at Junior Academy?
Admissions happen in four steps: 1) a phone call with our head teacher to understand your family's plans, 2) a visit of the school, 3) a one-to-one meeting with the child and both parents, 4) signing the enrolment paperwork. The full process usually takes 2 to 4 weeks.
From what age do you welcome children?
We welcome children from 2.5 years old in the Children's House (3-6) and up to 12 in the Explorers' Community (6-12).
Is there a trial period?
No. The one-to-one meeting with the head teacher and the pedagogical coordinator gives us all the time we need to get to know each other and picture life at the school before the final enrolment.
What are the fees for the 2026-2027 school year?
Ages 3-6: €504/month over 10 months. Ages 6-12: €546/month over 10 months. A 5% discount applies from the second child onwards. Enrolment fee: €420. Supplies fee: €130 (3-6) or €150 (6-12).
Does the school receive public funding?
No. Junior Academy is an independent private school outside the state contract system. It receives no state funding: rent, salaries and school trips are entirely covered by families' contributions. After-school-care fees are, however, tax-deductible in France.

A bilingual Montessori school in southern Lyon
Junior Academy is a private, out-of-contract school in Saint-Genis-Laval, 20 minutes from central Lyon by metro B and bus C10. Every year, around fifty children aged 2.5 to 12 attend two Montessori environments — the Children's House (3-6) and the Explorers' Community (6-12) — led by AMI-trained teachers and native English-speaking assistants.
Our approach combines Montessori rigor with daily linguistic immersion. French and English are used equally throughout the school day: activities, meals, transitions, free time. Families from Lyon, Oullins, Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, Tassin, Brignais and Francheville find at Junior Academy a small-scale school, an authentic bilingual environment and a full pedagogical continuity from nursery to Year 6.
We also run Wednesday workshops open to children who don't attend our school, and holiday camps during every school break (autumn, winter, spring, summer). We are one of the few English-speaking activity centres in southern Lyon combining active pedagogy, organic meals and small groups.
